Does Proportional response makes sense?

Oh, the old proportionality argument. Let me leave you with a few thoughts.

During World War 2, about 6-8 million Germans died, while about 870k British and Americans died. Does that mean that the Germans were the Victims?

If a mob of ten people attacks 2 people, but somehow the 2 people manage to defend themselves and hurt/kill the 10 aggressors, does that make the defense disproportionate?

What if a mob of 10 each held a baby in their hand, and the 2 people defending themselves ended up hurting or killing the babies? Does that mean that the 2 people hurt/killed 20 people?

Even if you are one of those strange people who are counting casualties completely out of context, your math is not done right.
Whether you go by international law or simply common sense, if a person tries to kill you but at the same time holds a baby to protect himself, and you end up killing the baby in self-defense, it is the man who attacks you that would be considered the murderer.

And anyone who keeps that horrible count of civilians is actually encouraging Hamas to sacrifice and indirectly murder more Palestinians.

Last but least, it is important to understand that Israel is not just attacking Hamas because the thousands of people they kidnapped, killed, and injured, but the genocide they are planning if they are not stopped.

Since the massacre on October 7th, where thousands of Jews were killed, girls were raped, kids were kidnapped, and old people were tortured, the only topic that was left to our Anti Israel marketing machine to discuss was proportionality. Finally, very few people were able to refute how cruel and evil were the Hamas genocidal organization, and they simply left us with a question: Now that this crime happened, “how many innocent Palestinian civilians will have to die for these crimes?” As the famous Egyptian comedian Baseem Youssef asked, is the Palestinian life worth so much less than a Jew?

So first, I need to ask Baseem, if he actually cares about Palestinian lives or how they are treated in his home country, Egypt. Is he concerned with the fact the Egyptian side is refusing to absorb Palestinian refugees? What about the half a million displaced Palestinians in Syria who are living in some of the most horrid conditions? I mean, it sounds like he cares a lot about Palestinians’ lives, only where it comes at the expense of Jews.

One Clever response that I have recently read is that proportionality means raping Palestinian girls, Kidnapping, and decapitating Palestinians? But as clever as it is, I don’t feel it targets the entire proportionality discussion, and it will not have a long-lasting effect. Because thank G-d this should be the first and last time that Hamas Terrorists will penetrate the country and commit these heinous crimes.

The more important topic is that war sucks, and as long as you agree that Israel has the right to defend itself, they have to attack the group that keeps on shooting missiles at them and keeps on contemplating the next genocide. The key word is contemplating!! Because it is not just about the thousands of Israelis that were killed, injured, and Kidnapped, which obviously is not enough for our haters; it is about the millions that they want to kill. Considering that Russia has Nuclear suitcases and that many Palestinians are willing to sacrifice their lives for the cause, it is not an unrealistic threat.
War sucks, my friends. There is a way of doing war right, and Israel does it better than anyone by warning the population and telling them to evacuate. There are many reports that show that Hamas is the one preventing Palestinians from evacuating.

And this brings me to the most important topic. You can’t discuss proportionality when your opponents are literally sacrificing their own people in the name of marketing. They are shooting weapons from schools, building underground centers, and sheltering weapons under hospitals.

It is not Israel that is killing the Palestinians. By any Western law and common sense in general, when a person attacks you while holding a baby as a shield, and the baby gets hurt or killed, it is the attacker who would be considered to be the murderer. Hamas is murdering its own people by leaving weapons in hospitals, shooting from schools and dense areas, and preventing its own population from leaving. Israelis are often criticized for treating Palestinian lives as less important, but it is the real murderers, Hamas, that treat Palestinian lives as cheap commodities.

There is another crucial reality that needs to be mentioned. In many wars, the aggressor loses more casualties often because their leader has no respect for human lives, including their own population.

In the recent Russian-Ukrainian war, an estimated of 120k Russians died, and only 70-80k Ukrainians. There is no discussion of proportionality.

In World War 2, 6-8 million Nazis died, and 850k British and American.

Anyone with common sense can agree who is the instigator of the war.

In a war, you often do what you need to do to reduce the casualties of your people while maintaining a battle as ethically as possible, which Israel has been doing. By continuously giving heads up to the civilians before bombing and helping them evacuate. What about the fact that countries of the world that claim to care so much about the Palestinians could easily absorb them? But as usual, no one really cares about the Palestinians. They care about this crazy revolution to remove the only Jewish state.

Defining the conflict by the number of casualties is so irrational because you are simply saying that if Israeli leaders would force their people out of bomb shelters and deactivate the defense technologies, it would give them more legitimacy in this conflict, which is a crazy notion.

Let’s take some examples.

If a mob of ten people attacks 2 people, but somehow the 2 people manage to defend themselves and hurt/kill the 10 aggressors, does that make the defense disproportionate?

What if that mob of 10 each held a baby in their hand, and the 2 people defending themselves ended up hurting or killing the babies? Does that mean that the 2 people hurt/killed 20 people?

People are simply doing the math wrong.

Whether you go by Western law or simply common sense, if a person tries to kill you but at the same time holds a baby to protect himself and you end up killing the baby in self-defense, it is the man who attack you that would be considered the murderer. By that definition, it is Hamas that is actually killing their own people. Putting aside the indiscriminate rockets that are shot at Israel but often land on Palestinians, Hamas is responsible for the deaths of Palestinians by making sure that Israel will need to retaliate against them in dense areas.

And anyone who keeps that horrible count of civilians is actually encouraging Hamas to sacrifice and indirectly murder more Palestinians.

If people really cared about the Palestinians, they would invest all their energy on criticizing the people who are really killing the Palestinians. Hamas. Otherwise, they are simply being complicit in Hamas’ crimes.
