What to Say to People That Claim That There Were Ulterior Motives for the Gaza Retreat?

Do you have any idea how difficult it is to uproot 90,000 of your people from their homes? Why did we turn over nearly 3,000 greenhouses and a thriving flower industry that would have earned Palestinians tens of millions of dollars in exports? It’s because of people that make this kind of accusation that Palestinian people are suffering.

In 2005 Ariel Sharon pulled 90,000 people out of Gaza. Many haters claim that this was done with the expectation that the Palestinians would fail to prove to the world they are a legitimate partner for peace. Here’s what I have to say to that:

Ladies and gentlemen, you will have to forgive me because I’m about to go into a rant. I ask for an apology in advance because I find that people who make this argument are the most cynical assholes out there.

Start of Rant:

Really?! Really?! Do you have no appreciation for how big sacrifice it is to uproot 90,000 of your people from their homes on behalf of people who are unwilling to compromise or negotiate, who will most likely use the region to run a more effective war against you? Do you think we did this to prove to the world that you will fail? Why did we turn over nearly 3,000 greenhouses and a thriving flower industry that would have earned Palestinians tens of millions of dollars in exports? Because we wanted the Palestinians to succeed desperately.

After this complete lack of appreciation, I just don’t understand how some of you are asking Israel to pull out of the 1967 borders. If you can come up with such bullshit excuses, how will that process be any different? It is people like you who are the reason there’s been no peace. Because no matter what initiative we take, you shit on it. It’s because of people like you that Palestinian people are suffering.

End of Rant
