What to Say When Someone Makes a Death Toll Comparison?

It’s so strange that the topic of death tolls actually comes up in conversation, but it does very often. People will say that it’s not fair when 50 Palestinians die in the same conflict that kills 10 Israelis.  Here’s what you have to tell them:

I don’t understand, are you legitimately evaluating war by body count?  Are you saying that if the Israeli government pushed its people out of bomb shelters and sacrificed children and sick people, you’d consider Israel to be a fairer player? It sounds to me like you are just trying to get more Jewish people to die. I think we should evaluate wars by who starts them and who ends them, and we both know that the second that the Palestinians stop shooting, the war will end.
